This course provides an overview of the ESG CAPER reporting process in HMIS, including how the report is generated, what information it captures, and why accurate data entry matters.

We’ll walk through key sections of the CAPER and connect the numbers in the report back to the information entered into HMIS throughout a client’s enrollment. You’ll learn how everyday data entry (such as project start and exit information, demographics, income, benefits, assessments, housing status, and services) can directly affect your agency’s CAPER results.

By the end of the course, you should feel confident submitting your CAPER report, identifying potential reporting issues, understanding how HMIS data flows into the CAPER, and entering information in a way that supports accurate and complete federal reporting. You will also have a useful checklist of action steps for reporting, as well as information on quarterly reporting timelines and report dates/parameters.
